The National Children’s Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety (NCCRAHS) collaborates with other organizations to facilitate workshops to increase knowledge and awareness of child agricultural safety and health (CASH) issues and to extend the reach and dissemination of CASH strategies and resources. Workshops are designed to equip participants with the information and resources needed to develop and enhance their organization’s child agricultural safety and health efforts.

NCCRAHS conducted their first journalist workshop in 2004 and since that time have conducted workshops on a variety of topics related to child agricultural safety and health including

  • Journalist workshops – designed to educate journalists about child agricultural injury prevention and provide guidance on the “Do’s and Don’ts” for creating media reports
  • Agritourism workshops to – introduces producers to safety strategies they can use to protect visitors to their farms, conducted in various locations including Tennessee, Florida, Louisiana, New Hampshire and Wisconsin.
  • General child agricultural injury prevention (CAIP) workshops – equip those on who work with producers with CAIP safety strategies and resources, conducted in Wisconsin, Iowa, Kentucky and Pennsylvania.
  • Virtual workshops (developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic) were held in 2021 (general child ag safety and health) and 2022 (working youth), with content added on “health”, including illnesses and mental health.

Access to the recordings from the virtual workshop sessions, session materials and resources are available for free to all Childhood Agricultural Safety Network (CASN) members in the CASN online community. For more information on CASN or to learn how to join, visit cultivatesafety.org/casn.

Future workshops are under development, including an international workshop on child agricultural safety and health at the 2022 World Safety Conference in Australia. NCCRAHS will also be collaborating with Great Plains Center for Agricultural Health to conduct workshops focused on working youth over the next few years, and welcomes additional opportunities to collaborate on future workshops.
